At the same time, however, consumers need to defend themselves against green wash marketing and know for sure which companies to trust. These companies must meet the "highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency and legal accountability" to demonstrate that they are balancing profit and purpose, doing good for all stakeholders, In other words, not just the shareholders.

Stakeholders are defined as - employees/workers, customers, community and environment. There is another area of additional activity that all the others are measured against, namely governance, that is, how your business is structured and managed - its mission, ethics, accountability and transparency.

As of 2021, there are over 3,800 Certified B Corps in over 70 countries, covering 150 different industries, from products to services.

How do you become a B Corp?

First you have to apply to be evaluated. Once our case has been considered, an evaluation tool comes into play, the B Impact Assessment. Through this review, they verify and improve the company’s performance through the allocation of a score for each aspect listed: Environment, Employees, Community, Governance, Customers, B Score. To receive the Certification of B Corporations the B Impact Assessment must return a score ranging from a minimum of 80 to a maximum of 200.

In Italy there are many companies that have reached this goal and in different sectors. Let’s see two.
